Service-Learning Faculty Workshop

Join faculty colleagues to explore service-learning as a high-impact educational practice for courses in all disciplines at a workshop led by Dr. Barbara Jacoby.
Dr. Jacoby served as Faculty Associate for Leadership and Community Service-Learning at the University of Maryland from 2011 to 2016. In this role, she facilitated initiatives involving academic partnerships, service-learning, and community engagement. She has held various other positions at the University of Maryland, and is a name at the top of the field of service-learning.
Attendees may register for the entire day, the morning session, or the afternoon session. Registration includes lunch and materials.
9:00am – Registration and light breakfast
9:30am-12:00pm – Morning Session: Getting Started with Service-Learning
The morning session of this interactive workshop will serve as an on-ramp for faculty members new to service-learning and will enable those who have had some service-learning experience to gain a deeper understanding of the pedagogy.
1:00-3:00pm – Afternoon Session: Service-Learning Assessment: How Do We Know if We Move the Needle?
In the afternoon session, participants will take a deeper dive into issues surrounding assessment.
